#The100DayProject

The inspiration to start this blog is “The 100 Day Project,” a challenge to make something every day, for 100 days straight. My project is to write a daily story about edible gardening: the plants & people that are connected with it. I’ll write about trees and plants in my yard, easy recipes using the edibles; and some of the people and things that are related to food gardening. Let me know what you think. You can follow my daily blogs here, or follow me on Twitter. I’ll also be posting a picture a day (minimum) with each story and posting the photos on Instagram. If you get inspired to take on a 100 Day Project of your own, let me know so I can follow you too! You can get more information about The 100 Day Project at thegreatdiscontent.com/100days .

  1. I opened up my newspaper over my morning cup of coffee and you won’t believe what I found on the FRONT PAGE of The Washington Post — “A Growing Experience: In a Maryland prison garden, fruits, vegetables and inmates flourish”!!! The synthesized story is that Maryland’s largest penitentiary (we’re talking violent criminals in there) has created a large scale plant growing program that inmates are lining up to participate in because it makes them feel good and has a calming influence! The 10 hours of daily work produced 5 tons of edibles last year (strawberries, squash, eggplant, lettuce, peppers). One inmate said, “It makes you feel like you still have it in you to do something good.” This is probably not what you’d expect to see in a gardening blog, but it’s truly inspirational and a testimonial to the goodness of planting and cultivating your plants. I’m sending the article to GardeningB via email.
